A libraian friend just called and asked me to help her (her husbnad is ill) run her Mr. Popper’s Penguins Luncheon tomorrow. It’s been rescheduled multiple times due to our Ohio weather and she’s not sure what day she’ll be able to leave her husband to come back to work.
She has had a group of fourth graders (two from each class-16 total) in during lunch/recess a couple times a week this past month as part of a voluntary book group/lit circle to talk about Mr. Popper’s Penguins. It’s been a long time since I read this book (I think it was for a Children’s Literature Class at Miami University as an undergraduate). I’ll be curious to hear from the kids about the book and their experiences with the group. Should be a better lunch than the Convention Center, even if it means a extra trip to and from Columbus. More to share after tomorrow.
